Art Therapy
Art therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapeutic modality that integrates neuroscience and psychological principals such as ACT and CBT with creative processes to support mental, emotional and behavioural health and well-being. Art therapy is an effective intervention for people of all ages and supports a wide variety of issues including anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, grief and bereavement, ASD, ADHD, eating disorders, physical and intellectual disabilities.
Art therapy utilises both verbal and non-verbal communication and sensory-based interventions to facilitate, self-expression, improved emotional regulation, resilience and cognitive and sensory-motor function. The emphasis is on the creative process rather than the product, and you don’t need to be good at art to participate in art therapy.
Art therapists are masters-level trained allied health professionals who must hold professional registration with ANZACATA, the governing body for creative arts therapists.
No GP referral is required, and NDIS fee rebates may be available for eligible clients.
