Speech and Language Pathologist

Bachelor of Speech and Language Pathology (with Honours) (University of Canterbury, NZ)
Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)

Eleanor is a Speech Pathologist at Ladybug House who brings specialist expertise in working with children who have a range of communication difficulties. She studied in New Zealand and has since worked in various settings, including mainstream schools, special education schools, kindergartens, and homes. Through this range of environments, she has gained experience working with parents, teachers, psychologists, education support staff, occupational therapists, and psychologists.

Eleanor was fortunate to present her honours research “What do Maori Speech-Language Therapists believe is important in their own practice of tikanga (values) working with tamariki (children) and whānau Māori (Maori families) for communication needs?” at the International Speech Pathology World Congress (IALP) 2023. This research centred around the importance of ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach with families that upholds the strength of the child and family. Eleanor is passionate about creating purposeful and appropriate support for families – including a neuroaffirming approach for all clients.

Clinically, Eleanor enjoys working with children who are stuttering, and who need support with their literacy, articulation and developing their language skills. She has been trained in the Lidcombe program (stuttering), Routine Based Intervention (RBI) and other approaches that support communication.

Eleanor values listening to the family and their experiences and pairing that with research evidence to get the most out of working with the family. She is dedicated to empowering children and their families by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every child’s communication potential can flourish.

In her spare time, Eleanor stays active with a variety of pursuits, from running and playing hockey to practising martial arts and skiing. She also treasures time spent with friends and family, finds joy in getting lost in a good book, and baking. Each of these activities highlights different traits — such as discipline and creativity — which she brings to her professional life.
